Skin Care After a Bungendore Summer: Sun Damage, Pigmentation and What Helps
Our part of the world is beautiful, but demanding on skin. We're higher and drier than the coast, UV is strong from September through April, and many of our clients from Bungendore, Googong and out towards the country spend a lot of time outdoors. By the end of summer we see the same things over and over: pigmentation, dehydration and a rough, thickened texture.
What sun damage looks like
- Freckling and sun spots that don't fade
- Patches of uneven colour, especially on cheeks, forehead and upper lip
- A dull, leathery texture
- Fine lines that seem to have appeared overnight
- Broken capillaries on cheeks and nose
Why autumn is treatment season
The treatments that make the biggest difference to pigmentation and texture, such as skin needling and resurfacing, work best when the skin isn't being hit with strong UV every day and when you don't have a tan. That makes March to August the ideal window in the Canberra region. Start in autumn and you'll have several months of results before next summer.
What helps
Skin needling
The most effective treatment we offer for pigmentation and sun-damaged texture. A course of three to six sessions breaks up pigment and rebuilds collagen the sun has depleted.
Hydradermabrasion
Resurfaces the thickened top layer and clears the congestion that builds up under sunscreen and sweat over summer.
Hydrofacials and LED
Restore the hydration summer strips out and calm redness and inflammation.
Home care
Vitamin C in the morning, a brightening or retinol product at night, and SPF every single day, including in winter. We'll recommend specific Dermatonics products based on your skin.
When to see a doctor
Any spot that is new, changing, bleeding or irregular in shape or colour should be checked by a GP or skin cancer clinic first. We're happy to treat cosmetic pigmentation, but we'll always ask you to have anything suspicious checked before we do.
Book a skin consultation at our Queanbeyan salon and bring your questions. Repair takes a few months, and autumn is the time to start.
