Spray Tan Prep and Aftercare: How to Get a Flawless Tanzola Tan That Lasts

The result of a spray tan depends on how well the skin is prepared beforehand. We use Tanzola and VANI‑T, two Australian-made professional solutions chosen because they develop into a natural, olive-based colour rather than orange, and suit our Canberra-region skin tones. Here's how to get the best result from it.

Two days before

• Exfoliate all over with a mitt or scrub, paying attention to elbows, knees, ankles and hands
• Get waxing, shaving and brow or lash appointments done now, not on the day
• Do any manicures or pedicures before your tan

On the day

• Shower, but skip moisturiser, deodorant, perfume and makeup. They create a barrier and cause patchiness
• Wear loose, dark clothing and open footwear; avoid tight-fitting garments and socks
• Bring a hair tie

During your appointment

We'll talk through the shade you want and choose a solution to match. The tan itself takes around 15 minutes. We apply barrier cream to hands, feet and any dry spots so they don't over-develop, and you'll leave with a bronzer guide colour so you can see coverage straight away.

Developing time

Classic solutions develop over six to eight hours; our express option can be rinsed in one to four hours depending on the depth of colour you'd like. Until then, avoid water, exercise and touching the skin. Rinse with warm water only, no soap, until the water runs clear, then pat dry.

Making it last

• Moisturise morning and night from the day after your rinse
• Pat the skin dry rather than rubbing
• Avoid long baths, chlorine and exfoliants
• Skip oil-based products and acne treatments on tanned areas
