Dermaplaning: Benefits, What It Feels Like and Who It Suits
Dermaplaning is the treatment clients tell us they can feel the difference from before they've even looked in the mirror. It's simple, it's quick, and it makes everything you put on your skin afterwards work better.
What it is
Using a sterile surgical blade held at a shallow angle, we gently glide over the skin to remove the top layer of dead cells along with the fine vellus hair, the "peach fuzz" on cheeks, upper lip and jaw. It's a manual exfoliation, with no chemicals and no machines.
The benefits
- Immediately smoother, brighter skin
- Makeup sits flawlessly with no fuzz catching foundation
- Skincare absorbs more deeply
- A softening of fine lines and dry patches
- Safe during pregnancy, when many active treatments aren't
Does the hair grow back thicker?
No. This is the question every client asks. Vellus hair is cut, not removed at the root, so it grows back exactly as it was, at the same rate and texture. It cannot change the follicle.
What it feels like
A light, gentle gliding sensation across the skin. There's no discomfort, and it takes around 30 minutes for the full face. We finish with a hydrating serum and SPF. Skin may look slightly pink for an hour or so, and that's it.
Who it suits
Almost everyone, particularly dry, dull or sun-damaged skin, and anyone who wants a smooth base for makeup before a wedding, formal or photoshoot. We recommend it every four to six weeks, in line with your skin's natural cycle.
Who should wait
Active acne, cold sores, sunburn or very reactive skin. If that's you, a hydrofacial is a better fit and we can revisit dermaplaning once the skin has settled.
Our Queanbeyan salon sees a lot of Jerrabomberra and Googong clients booking dermaplaning a week before events, and it also pairs beautifully with LED therapy in the same visit.
